I will buy a used subwoofer to integrate with my book shelve speakers.I have the following music set at my 20m2 (215 ft2) living room:
- Pro-ject RPM 1 Genie turntable
- Rotel RA-931 amp with an Onkyo tone arm and AT95E cartridge
- B&W DM302 speakers
- Sony SA-W10 subwoofer (gave by a friend, it's the weakest link in the chain)
The options I have right now are:
Mordaunt Short Avant 309i (10 inch / 175W / 35 - 200 Hz freq resp.) 200€ (my favourite option)
Jamo SUB 200 (8 inch / 200 W / 38 - 200Hz freq resp.) 80€
Wharfedale SW150 (10 inch / 150W / 35 – 110Hz freq resp.) 150€
My questions are:
1. Is my choice correct (Mordaunt Short Avant 309i)
2. Is the price fair (all 3 subs are in mint condition)?
3. Does my amp handle good with any of this subs?
4. It's an overkill sub considering my Rotel RA-931 amp, my B&W DM302 speakers and the size of my listening room? (I look for audio quality, not nuclear power!)
Notes:
- My budget is 200€
- I have to keep some money for my next upgrade (Ortofon 2M Red cartidge)
- I know I could find a better sub like B&W 610 or the SVS-1000 but they are not in my budget range. Maybe one day..
Thanks for all the help
Mr_OrangeHello Audiophiles,
I have the following music set at my 20m2 (215 ft2) living room:
- Pro-ject RPM 1 Genie turntable
- Rotel RA-931 amp
- B&W DM302 speakers
- Sony SA-W10 subwoofer (it hurts to call it subwoofer, but a friend gave it to me!)
The subwoofer it's the weakest link in the chain.
I have enough power but the speakers have a much nicer sound then the SUB.
What should I do?
1. I read all over the internet that a good SUB like the BK Gemini II it's the way to go or else I'm throwing money away, buying a low quality sub. In this case I would end with a much nicer and powerfull SUB that would overpower my speakers? The cost would be around 300£.
2. Buy 2 floorstand speakers like the Q Acoustics 2050i or the Dali Zensor 5
Sony Sa W10 Manual
and forget the SUB, because I mainly listen to music. The cost would be around 350£.Sony Sa W10 Subwoofer Specifications
Notes:- My budget it's around 400£
- I'm happy with my amp and speakers
