What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) protects data you upload and download from the internet. It provides security for data sent from your device and anonymizes your internet activity.
What is Avast SecureLine VPN?
Avast SecureLine VPN is an application which allows you to connect to the internet via secure Avast VPN servers using an encrypted tunnel to protect your online activity from eavesdropping. Avast SecureLine VPN mainly offers:
- Protection: when many people connect to the same public network, attackers can capture sensitive data, such as logins and passwords. The encrypted VPN connection provides efficient protection against these types of attacks.
- Anonymization: with broadband connections, many people have fixed IP addresses which can be tracked when browsing sensitive sites. With a VPN connection, the browsing session is effectively anonymized - the IP address the remote server sees is the address of the VPN server, not the user.
- Unrestricted access to the internet: when connected to a VPN server in another location, you gain access to content that may be restricted in your location. This allows you to browse freely, even from countries with web censorship.

Which Operating Systems does Avast SecureLine VPN support?
You can install and run Avast SecureLine VPN on any Android device running Google Android 5.0 (Lollipop, API 21) or higher.
You can install and run Avast SecureLine VPN on any Apple iPhone, Apple iPod Touch, or Apple iPad running Apple iOS 9.0 and higher.

Avast SecureLine VPN for Android devices is available for download from the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Play Store from the apps screen on your Android device and search for
Avast SecureLine VPN. - Open the VPN Proxy by Avast SecureLine - Anonymous Security page from the search results.
- Tap Install, and if asked for permissions, select Accept.
- Once the installation is complete, tap Open to start using the app.
- Tap Choose a plan and follow the on-screen instructions.
Avast SecureLine VPN for iOS devices is available for download from the App Store.
- Open App Store from the apps screen of your iOS device and search for
Avast SecureLine VPN. - Open the Avast SecureLine VPN + Proxy page from the search results.
- Tap Get to download the app, and then tap Install. When re-installing the app, just tap the cloud icon.
- If asked for permissions, select Accept.
- Once the installation is complete, tap Open to start using the app.
- Select Continue to confirm that you have read and accept the terms of the AVAST End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy.
Avast SecureLine VPN is now installed and ready to use.
How do I update to the latest version of Avast SecureLine VPN?
Updates are managed by your Android device. If a new version of SecureLine VPN is available, the Google Play Store notifies you.

How can I uninstall Avast SecureLine VPN?

How do I know how long my license is valid for?
Open Avast SecureLine VPN and tap the gear icon to access settings. Tap Subscription to view the duration of your license.
Can I use my Avast SecureLine VPN license on multiple devices?
Yes. You can use your license on up to five devices.
What happens after my 7-day free trial ends?
When your 7-day free trial ends, your selected subscription automatically starts so that you can continue using Avast SecureLine VPN. You are charged for your subscription on the day that your free trial period ends.
If you no longer want to use Avast SecureLine VPN, you need to cancel your subscription via the Google Play Store or the App Store.
How do I cancel my Avast SecureLine VPN subscription?
If you no longer want to use Avast SecureLine VPN on your Android or iOS device, you need to cancel your subscription via the Google Play Store or the App Store. Your subscription is not automatically canceled when you uninstall the app from your device.
- Open the Google Play Store on your device.
- Tap ☰ Menu in the top-left corner, then select Subscriptions.
- Select Avast SecureLine VPN from your list of subscriptions.
- Tap Cancel Subscription, then follow the on-screen instructions.
- The Google Play Store confirms that the subscription is canceled.
- Open the App Store on your device.
- Tap your profile photo in the top-right of the screen.
- Tap Manage Subscriptions.
- Select Avast SecureLine VPN from your list of subscriptions.
- Tap Cancel Subscription, then follow the on-screen instructions.
- The App Store confirms that the subscription is canceled.
Your subscription will stop at the end of the current billing cycle.
How do I recover my license from a previous version of Avast SecureLine VPN? (for Android users)
If you upgraded to Avast SecureLine 2.x and your license wasn't recovered automatically, you can enter your activation key from Avast SecureLine 1.x. If you don't know your activation key, and you use Android version 6.0 or later, follow these steps to restore your license:
- Ensure your Google Account is configured on your device.
- Go to Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Avast SecureLine VPN and tap Permissions.
- Tap the slider next to Contacts to change it from the OFF position to ON.
Once you open Avast SecureLine VPN 2.x, your license is restored.

How do I know that VPN is active and working?
After you tap Connect, Avast SecureLine VPN displays the text Connected.
After you select a location and tap Connect, the text Connected appears. To confirm your connection, go to your device settings and ensure the slider next to VPN is switched to the ON position.
How do I change my location?
To connect to a different location:
- Tap the Avast SecureLine VPN icon on the home screen of your device to open the app.
- Tap the Change location panel at the bottom of the screen, and select a location from the list. Tap Connect to connect to the optimal location.
How do I configure Avast SecureLine VPN to connect automatically?
To automatically connect your device to Avast SecureLine VPN when you switch between Wi-Fi and mobile networks:
- Tap the Avast SecureLine VPN icon on the home screen of your device to open the app.
- Tap the gear icon to access Settings.
- Tap Connection rules, and move the slider next to Wi-fi reconnect and Cellular reconnect so that they turn to orange.
- Tap Connection rules move the slider next to Auto-connect on Wi-Fi and Auto-connect on cellular so that they turn green.
How does automatic reconnect work on iOS devices? Why sometimes the VPN icon is not visible when I unlock my iPhone?
On iOS devices, connections behavior is fully controlled by the operating system. The VPN connection is terminated as soon as the network communication is not needed. This saves battery life. Once it is needed again, then iOS starts a new VPN connection. This can cause a short delay in displaying the VPN icon in the status bar when unlocking the device. If the Auto-connect options of Avast SecureLine VPN are enabled on your device (by default), iOS still controls the VPN connection. Thanks to the most modern VPN protocol IPsec+IKEv2 provided by iOS and the Avast SecureLine VPN infrastructure, the VPN connection is in average established under 1 seconds. Therefore this has a minimal impact on the user experience.
Why is my Internet connection slower when I connect to Avast SecureLine VPN?
You may experience a slower Internet connection when using Avast SecureLine VPN. A VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server. Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection.
Why do Gmail and Live Mail send me suspicious activity alerts when I connect to Avast SecureLine VPN?
If you select a different location when you connect to the internet via Avast SecureLine VPN, Gmail and Live Mail may detect this change. You may receive an email reporting suspicious activity, and will be asked to change your password if you think someone in a different location has accessed your email. Verify the VPN location you selected to ensure your security.
