Once upon a time I made a custom Arch-based live distro with Archiso (and I wrote this article for Linux Magazine on the subject, in case anyone's curious).

Gentoo Download Iso

I would like to rebuild the distro I made with Archiso as a Gentoo-based live image that is redistributable rather than optimized just for my system--ideally, one that could be made compatible with x86 as well as amd64 architectures with minimal trouble (but if necessary I'll stick with one architecture).

I've tried to do this with Catalyst, but the build failed, and I can't find much support or information on using Catalyst. I have yet to try the Linux Live scripts because I don't really know how supported they are in Gentoo. All of the info I've been finding on making a Gentoo live CD seems outdated too.

Is there a preferred, working method to create a live Gentoo ISO in 2013? I'm open to alternative solutions, like basing the ISO on Sabayon or SystemRescueCD.
